January 17th…66 days old
Well our little guy is doing really well. As per the earlier post, he took his CPAP off all on his own and he actually lasted almost 24 hours without any breathing intervention! They have put him back on what is called a low flow oxygen tube. Its a very small light tube that just sits inside your nose and gives just a small amount of oxygen. Ayden seems to be swinging a bit so they put him on this for a little bit. He should not need it for too long. He does not have anything restricting his face with this tubing, its just a little tape to hold it in place! His food has been changed to 40 mils and tonight he gets weighed so we will update that when we find out the new weight. I was at the hospital yesterday and found that I was displeased with the care he was...
NO CPAP!!!!
So we arrived at the hospital tonight to find that Ayden is without his CPAP!!! Apparently he decided that he didn’t want the CPAP in anymore and actually pulled it out all on his own. By the time the doctor checked him, he had the CPAP completly off. This was at 3 this afternoon so they decided to leave it off of him since he was doing so well! The nurses on hand will often tend to several babies at once. To cover other breaks so they often count on the machines to beep or ring to notify them something is up with that baby. So when Ayden pulled out his CPAP if his oxygen levels didn’t drop there would be no alarm to notify anyone.. sneaky little guy, which is why the doctors or nurses didn’t notice for some time. This was the first time that...
Jan 13th update
So I went in again today to visit our little man. I spent about 3 hours holding him, and he is doing so well. He is hardly swinging anymore!! He is on room air which is 21% oxygen and they have up’d his food again so now he is up to 37 mils over a 45 min period with a two hour break for digestion. They weighed him again tonight and his weight is now 2024 grams or 4.4 pounds…he is just a little chub now!!! LOL…so cute!!! I know that this blog is about our little man, but I overheard a doctor talk on the phone yesterday about a set of twins and I think they need some prayers… these twins were born premature (not sure how early), and they are both blind and deaf. Our hearts go out to the family. we have been through a lot with Ayden, but at...

Is what the nurse told us Ayden weighs tonight, which is about 4.3lbs for those who aren’t familiar with grams. His CPAP peep which is the pressure that is being forced into his lungs is at 5.0, and his feeds are up to 35mils. The nurse informed us that he’s currently sound asleep. So this is short and sweet. Otherwise it was a crazy night for us here at home… the furnace stopped working and mom had to pump in the cold.. brrrrrrr. Then the people that are spraying a protective coating on the couch came and so we couldn’t sit in the basement on the new couch for the duration of the night. So we did our best to keep warm in the living room. I tried to warm things up with the oven on.. Lindsay finally went and had a hot bath. The repair man...
no more room…
Well we officially have no more room in our freezer. Mark and I had to re-organize the “milk freezer” today. Found out that I have close to 500 containers filled with milk and that’s from December to now. That equals 105 cups of milk or 6.5 gallons!!! Ayden is never going to catch up!!!! As for the little guy, he is doing well today. Just sleeping, eating and pooping (the night nurse told me that last night she was wearing long sleeves and Ayden had a nice big poop that was EVERYWHERE…including on her sleeves…that rocks!!!). The nurses have told us in the last few days that he is one of their favorites. There are a lot of babies in the NICU, but most of them stay for a few days and then they get to go home. Ayden as you all know will...
Snuggles make my day!
Snuggles with Ayden just make the day so good. Today dad and I traveled to Hamilton again to see our little boy. He was wide awake when we got there. Lying on his back and just staring at the world around him. As we got there, I had to go and pump so dad got some one on one time. He told Ayden stories of all different things and then nothing at all. dad talked about playing together and things they will do together when he is older. He also told Ayden that he was really proud of him and hope that he gets off the CPAP soon. When I returned, it was snuggle time!!!! I asked Dad if he wanted a snuggle, but he said that he would like me to snuggle today. I sat down in the chair and they had this AWESOME pillow for me today. Normally its just a regular pillow that you...
YEAH 4 pounds already!!!!
Hi everyone! Ayden is up to 1824 grams (4.02 pounds)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂 So today has been another good day. I went for a visit this afternoon to Hamilton to see Ayden. When I got there the nurse had Ayden’s hat off to give his head a rest from the pads and pressure that the CPAP holders give him. The CPAP was still on (as Ayden still needs this), but it was nice to see him without his little hat on! I spoke with one of the doctors today and he asked if we had been given the results of the last head ultrasound and I told him no. He said that the little water spaces that we had to drain with the spinal tap are actually getting SMALLER!!!! HORRAY..this is awesome news. He also said that he thinks we have averted any operations to put a...
