NO CPAP!!!!

So we arrived at the hospital tonight to find that Ayden is without his CPAP!!!  Apparently he decided that he didn’t want the CPAP in anymore and actually pulled it out all on his own. By the time the doctor checked him, he had the CPAP completly off. This was at 3 this afternoon so they decided to leave it off of him since he was doing so well! The nurses on hand will often tend to several babies at once. To cover other breaks so they often count on the machines to beep or ring to notify them something is up with that baby. So when Ayden pulled out his CPAP if his oxygen levels didn’t drop there would be no alarm to notify anyone.. sneaky little guy, which is why the doctors or nurses didn’t notice for some time.

This was the first time that we got to see his little face without all the tubes and tape on it. He is a perfect little boy. He has such a cute button nose, rosy cheeks and he is just so precious. I could not help to cry because he is just so beautiful.

The nurse put Ayden on me and it was so nice to hold him tonight without the CPAP. The CPAP is actually really heavy and it pulls Ayden’s head down so to have him just without was so nice. Dad managed to snap almost 50 or so pics!!! (oh, his hair is a nice brown color!)

After my really nice snuggle it was bath time!!!  The nurse took Ayden and put him back in the incubator where he was going to have a nice warm sponge bath, but as she was about to take off the diaper, Ayden let a huge one rip!!!  LOL…the nurse looked right at me and said…do you want to change him…I politely said no, please go ahead!!!  it was loud too!!! Dad smiled on proudly.. “that’s my boy alright”.

So we had bath time, and he loved it..especially when the nurse put warm wet towels over his body…ah so relaxing!

Then after the bath it was weigh time. Ayden now weighs 2070 grams or 4 pounds 9 ounces!!!!  holy cow!!! he is almost 5 pounds…he’s growing like a weed!!!

His hair looks blonde in this pic, but it’s actually due to the lights in the incubator. His hair is a nice medium brown color.

As Ayden does not need his CPAP tonight, it does not mean that it’s gone forever. They will monitor him and if his body needs some oxygen they will put him back on for a little bit. But since he does not need any nose tubes now, and his gag reflex is starting to develop, the nurse took the feeding tube out of his mouth (it was put in his mouth down his throat and into his tummy), she put it through his nose and down to his tummy. It’s a bit better now as he can suck on his soother much better..and you should have seen his tongue go when she took the tube out. He was sticking out and was doing some sucking motions…hence the soother!

So all in all tonight’s visit was AMAZING. Ayden has overcome so much so far and this is a big hurdle to overcome. Even now I have tears running down my face. Ayden, your Dad and I are just so proud of your  progress and just so in awe at your beauty.  We love you so much.

Update! 7am Fri Jan 16th

So I couldn’t wait for Lindsay to get up to check in with the Hospital this morning… so I called. I wanted to catch the night nurse as the day nurse relaying the story may forget details. He slept the whole night through without his CPAP. They’ve actually removed the machine now from his bedside. (He does have this machine called “soft flow” there in the event he needs help) They’re very impressed with his leap in progress… And I couldn’t be prouder!

Amy his night nurse said that at 3am he was sleeping so soundly and peacfully she didn’t have the heart to wake him up.. so she let him sleep on through. And even now at the time of my call he was merrily going to town on his soother.

Mom is headed back up to visit today.. I mean after a visit like that how could you not! I can’t wait to see him agian either.

Cheers A-train! cya soon.

Congratulations! So amazing to see him without the “Top Gun” mask (I always thought it makes him look a bit like a fighter pilot…) So beautiful with all the hair & those great big eyes. The warmest news on such a cold, crappy day! Thanks Ayden! (& to Mom & Dad for the updates!)
