Christmas Eve and 31 Weeks Old!!!!

Well our little guy is now 42 days old!!! wow – that’s awesome what a great christmas eve day this has been… well except for the two hours of shoveling I did this morning at from 5:30 till 7:30am. But after that and a shower I’m doing much better. Lindsay and I zipped out quickly to the stores – I wanted to get lindsay to pick out a new fairy for her collection. And Seeing as I enjoy looking at them too – that makes it kinda for the both of  us. After that we headed up to Mac to see how Ayden was doing. What a drive there – everything is all wet and melty and then it started to rain… rain on Christmas eve… what’s that all about? But we got there in one piece. When we got up to the ward, we bumped into Dr...

One Day Away from 31 weeks…

Ya, I get to write a post 😀 –  So I called tonight and had a chance to talk with Julie tonight, who totally rocks. She really takes great care with Ayden.. and like charlie, Ayden has a few of his own Angels, lol. So we were told tonight that the little feller has gone up in weight, and is now sitting at 1370grams or 3.02 lbs. So he’s getting there.. it’s crazy to think some babies come out 7, 8 or even 9 or more pounds… that’s nuts… I think mom mentioned that he’s started to make his own red blood cells.. which is pretty awesome little dude. He’s eating 15mils of Milk every 90 mins which Mom worked out to be 3/4 of a cup of milk a day… FYI Lindsay makes that in one of her pumping’s So he’s still...

December 22nd update

Well seems that Ayden is still doing really well. His oxygen is fluctuating between 22-35% and that all depends on how he is lying. If he is lying on his tummy, his oxygen is lower then when he is lying on his back… they did some blood work today and it seems that his hemoglobin is a bit low. Normally for a preemie they would do a blood transfusion (which Ayden has already had 2), but they have also found that Ayden is now making his own blood. Normally with preemies because their systems are not developed they don’t make blood very fast and with all the blood work being done by the NICU they have to replace it somehow..so they do a blood transfusion to replace the blood they have taken. Well I guess that Ayden is now starting to make his own blood so...

December 20th 38 days old

Well, Finally after all of the hospital visits and surgery I got to see my little boy today. He looks so much bigger to me!!! I mean, his body is still so tiny and he is not even 3 pounds yet, but the last week and a half has added a little tiny bit of baby chubb to Ayden! So he is doing really well. He is out of his kanagaroo bed and is now in a regular incubator. His weight as of today is 1290 grams and he is eating 14 mils of milk every hour and a half. His oxygen is down to about 22-25%, he is still swinging but that is considered normal and on par for his gestional age. Because of the surgery my body is really weak and healing so I was not able to hold Ayden today but I did rub his little back and play with his feet and hands. Oh…Ayden now has...

Ayden update Dec 19th

Hi everyone, Well it’s been a while since we have done an Ayden update with all the hospital visits and surgery by me, so here you go. Ayden is doing well. His weight has topped 1230 grams (2.71 pounds)!!  His feeding is 14 mils every hour and a half, then they give him a half an hour to digest and they start all over again. He is apparently doing really well with the milk as they just asked us to bring in about 40 or so containers…I was so happy to oblige, but this won’t even dent the amount in the freezer.  LOL…it will be nice to be off the pain killers so I can start to store the milk again, right now every time I pump we have to dump the milk as it’s not good for the baby. Ayden’s oxygen is doing well too. He is down to...

Surgery is done

Well folks, This is Lindsay here. The surgery is done…thank goodness. Don’t mind if the email here rambles as I am still on some heavy duty drugs… What a crappy ride this has been. I have spent most of the last week or more in the hospital on so many drugs for the pain that I can’t even remember what has happened in the last few days. Mark was talking to me about some guy that he was talking to at the hospital, but I don’t even remember that at all and I don’t even know what day it is today…. But the surgery was done yesterday evening. I was transferred to Grand river and the surgery was done at 6:00ish. I was given drugs through the Iv to fall asleep and then when I woke up I was in the recovery room. I didn’t...

Life In The Hospital Ward

So, this is the 2nd time I’m writing this as the first time javascript wasn’t enabled. So it didn’t save it. Weeeeee. But now I think I’m good. I am currently sitting next to a vending machine here on the 6th floor, of grandriver waiting for my wife to come back from surgery. Some where a small electronic toy sings out “you are my sunshine” for the hundreth time. But the squeals from the child playing with it tell me there is no end in sight. Hopefully the gentle thrumming from the refridgeration unit in the pepsi machine next to me will lull me into some sort of coma. She went in about 30 minuets ago. So we’ll see how it goes. In any event typing on this tiny key pad of my 8830 is cramping my hand. Will report more in a...
