Green Light For Transfer
Yup you heard right!! Ayden passed his eye test!!! which means they wanna have us come back at some point for another check up throughout his development. But it’s nothing that is super urgent, which means he’s good in that department. Now that said.. he had a test today to check his urinary track infection. They had to put in a catheter to put in a fluid that the doctors could track on the Ultrasound. The test revealed that he was having some reflux so they’re gonna have to keep and eye on that… as a result Ayden will be on a low dose of antibiotic for a full year. But this is nothing that will hold him from being transferred, so… they’re going to meet all together as a team tomorrow. And then that being said…...
What a crazy day!!!
Well today has been such a crazy hectic day…. Ayden has an iv in his left hand in order to give him antibiotics, but you can only leave an iv in for so long…so this morning at 5am, they had to remove the iv from his hand to another vein in his body…the problem is that they tried a vein in his other hand and it didn’t work, they tried one on his left side of his head and it didn’t work and they finally found one on the right side…whew (3 needles so far…) Due to the iv troubles, they can’t feed the babies right away as they are under a lot of stress and will spit the food back up…so Ayden’s 6am feed did not get run until 7:30. By the time I arrived at 9 for his feed, his tummy was still digesting the food...
update…
Well thank goodness but Ayden is doing well. After all the blood work, iv, xrays and urine tests…this is the result… Yesterday afternoon the nurses and doctors changed how Ayden receives his food when I am not at the hospital breast feeding. Normally the food is put into a syringe that pushes the milk thorough his feeding tube over a half an hour period. it’s a nice slow movement of food into the tummy. Well yesterday they thought they would try what is called bolus feeding. Bolus feeding is where they attach the syringe full of milk to the feeding tube and hold it higher then the baby’s body and the gravity pulls the milk into the tummy. The problem with this method is that the milk flows really fast into the tummy and it fills up really...
Close Call
“Man is harder than iron, stronger than stone and more fragile than a rose.” — Turkish Proverb quotes Tonight was one hell of a close call… we almost lost Ayden. I just got off the phone with mom (Lindsay) and she’s pretty shaken… normally at this time I get a phone call something to the effect of “he was fussy, but he ate… I changed his diaper and he’s sleeping now” but tonight Lindsay was in tears.. and she started telling me about how she went in for her regular feed at 5. Ayden was lying on his back sleeping when she arrived. Mom changed his diaper, took his temperature and then was getting ready to breast feed him…all of a sudden, Ayden stuck his tongue out (and it was covered in milk). The problem was...
6 pound baby boy!!!
well, our little boy is now 6 pounds!!! Dad and I spent the weekend together here in Oakville and we spent most of the time at the hospital with our little cutie. Saturday night dad and I bathed him together for the first time and we also weighed him. We did a little happy dance when the scale said 2726 grams which is 6 pounds. Ayden is doing better each day with his breastfeeding…but we find that in the evening he is just sooo tired and fusses a bit with the feeding. The nurses however have been great. I have told them that I don’t want them to use bottles as I want to solely breastfeed and they have been respectful of that. So in between the times that I am not at the hospital for breastfeeds, they use his feeding tube. So each day is getting a...
Regarding Showers FYI…
Hey gang we’re almost in to baby shower season.. and I just wanted to let those who are attending know Lindsay and I are registered at Baby’s R Us part of the Toys R Us chain. Thanks again to everyone who’s shown their support. Jeff and Allison we’d like to extend our deep appreciation for the gift of some gas cards.. Which have become an amazing gift now that mom is regularly at the hospital feeding. Today was particularly rough saying good bye to Lindsay as I headed home from the hospital I hadn’t seen her all last week. Today I came home as she’s having a baby shower with Lily and that side of the family. Today I’m gonna be watching my godson Kristofer have his confirmation so that’ll be a great time. Hmm I...
