Ayden progress Jan 30th
So Last night Dad and I traveled to hamilton for some dad snuggle time. We arrived at about 7:30 and Dad sat down in the chair while I got Ayden ready for some snuggles. Snuggle time for dad was great. He sang all sorts of songs to Ayden and just had some relaxing time. Snuggle time however was interrupted when the nurse came over and said that Ayden was going to be transferred to level 2. Now for those that don’t know, Ayden has been in a level 3 ward at the hospital…this is the highest level of care for a preemie or newborn. Level 2 is like a graduation!! he is doing so well and is stable that they transferred him. It’s one more step closer to coming home. So Dad changed the diaper, the nurse checked Aydens vitals (temperature etc) and then...
Cuddles keep me sane!!!
So today I went down to the hospital for my daily visit with Ayden. I arrived at 10:30 to a soundly sleeping baby boy. He was lying on his tummy with his hands at his face all tucked in. He looked so peaceful, I just sat down and watched him sleep. He finally started to stir at about 11:45 so the nurse came over and checked his lungs to make sure they sounded clear and they did. Then I changed his diaper…smelly boy…LOL…and it was then time for some mom and Ayden time. We had a 20 minute breast feeding trial today. He latched really well, but then would pull his head away, and then would re-latch…but it was enjoyable and he did get some milk from me too! After we had our breastfeeding time, we hooked his milk up to his feeding tube. (they...
Monday Jan 26th
Well Ayden has made some HUGE strides in the last few days. He came off the oxygen on Jan 22nd and stayed off until Jan 24th when they had to give him an immunization and he needed about 8 hours on the oxygen. Since then he has been off completely! Ayden is also in a crib now at the hospital which means that he is able to regulate his body temperature out of the incubator. He is breathing on his own, regulating his body temperature and he is gaining weight as well. Today and other milestone was met!!! Ayden and I had our first breastfeeding time today. The nurse that was with me, showed me how to hold him properly. She handed him to me and low and behold he latched right away! They called in the lactation specialist, she took one look and said, well I...
no more incubator and no more oxygen!!!
So I just called the hospital for an Ayden update. I was told by the nurse Amy that yesterday she took Ayden off the oxygen as his oxygen levels were showing high and stable, and as of present he is still off!!! WOO HOO… Ayden is also no longer in an incubator. Today he is in a big boy CRIB!!!!!! Some huge steps for such a small little guy!!!!
Milk
We have had a few people question what we are going to do with the milk once Ayden comes home so I thought I would answer it! The milk is only good for 6 months once it has been frozen. Once Ayden comes home, we hope that he will be soley breastfeeding. The milk will be kept in the freezer as a just in case. One of the just in case situation’s could be…I get sick and am on antiobiotics that are not good for the baby… So we will hold onto it until the 6 month period and then we will toss it. 🙂
