CP no more!!!

My little fighter…I can’t tell you how proud I am of you…

Yesterday you and mommy went to Hamilton for your 6 month growth and development checkup. Everything went really well at the appointment, in fact I was told that you are now 16 pounds and almost 27inches long!!  You are growing and growing!  but the really big news is that the neonatologist came in (she is a specialist in working with children in and out of the NICU). She assessed you and took a history of how you are doing and after a big of watching you and seeing how you are moving she came to the conclusion that you “do not have cerebal palsy”!!!  See your dad and I were told that due to the bleed in your brain, there was a high possibility that you would end up with CP in  your right hand side. The doctor told me without any hesitation that you have overcome this hurdle!!!  CP is also not a progressive disease so you will never get it!!!!  I can’t tell you how happy your dad and I are.  Your brain has managed to re-wire itself and you are just such a miracle.

The nurse also told me that I am able to give you any kind of food that you will be able to eat. Normally they suggest not giving babies meat until they are 8 months gestational, but with preemies like you, they want you to get protein as soon as you can eat solids…she also said that pretty much any food that we think you can eat is a go!  Your world just got more exciting and fun!!!

Another cool thing is that you dad got you to use your sippy cup for the first time yesterday. He showed you how to hold it and how to put it in your mouth by doing this in front of you, and then you modeled him. He was so proud of you for figuring it out but also doing by watching him.

You have had an array of foods in your diet so far. Carrots, cereal, creamed corn, peas and carrots mixed, green beans, sweet potato, butternut squash, strawberries, apple, pear, custard and pruns. You love them all!!!!

You have figured out how to roll from side to side now and you are weight shifting when you roll so you are moving when you are doing it.  You found the cat junebug the other day as well. Lets just say that you worked very hard to get to her and she was patient with you…for a short time…she sort of meowed and wandered off after you touched her!

Your dad and I love you so very much. You have overcome so much in your life so far, I wonder what the world will hold for you!
