A Mother's Pride

You ask Lindsay right now why she’s so proud of her little boy and she’ll tell you it’s not because he survived such an ordeal in the hospital, and it’s not because he’s holding his head up, or has discovered his hands now… not even that he’s learned to play with toys and is incredibly close to rolling over… nope this mom will tell you she’s soooo proud of her little boy because he had a big poop!

Yup – apparently little ones can be very sensitive to the intricate balance of vitamins and minerals they get.. so you really need to be mindful. Ayden has been suffering, and I do mean suffering – from constipation and gas. And it really breaks your heart when you see him so unhappy. We’ve had to give him a glycerin tip several times.. after days would pass with no er.. bowl movement. (a Glycerin Tip is simply that.. a pencil shaped form of Glycerin that lubes the bowels so basically everything inside – slides outside. There are no meds in it.) Well The other night, Lindsay sat next to Ayden with instructions from the Dr to also try KY-jelly and a Q-tip. So there’s mom swabbing her little boys poop chute doing essentially the same thing as the Glycerin tip, and she managed to get a fair…er .. “blockage” out. Now upon doing some digging into the problem and ‘props’ to mom for always researching and learning about things… (This is how mom gets to be so smart Ayden)  basically we’ve come to the conclusion that it’s to much ‘IRON’ in his diet. Clues that you child has too much iron, 1. constipation  2. Dark, or dark green poop. So we looked at what was going in.. and decided to remove the Fer-in-sol from his diet. A supplement the hospital put him on while on mom’s milk… but the formula he’s drinking now is fortified with iron so he’s getting to much we thought. And sure enough last night while sitting on mom’s knee just after a feed… he pooped, and mom couldn’t be prouder.

So currently it’s 4am – (checks clock) nope it’s 5:17am – and he’s sleeping in her arms after a good feed and we’re just about to put him back down – I hope he sleeps for another 4 hours.. please o please o please.. 😀
