Hearing Test…

Well I know it’s been some time folks, and frankly that’s not really our choice in this… Ayden has learned to use his voice to communicate, and although he can’t speak in sentences, he can speak in gibberish and loud cries. So to communicate that he is indeed hungry and would greatly appreciate a bottle of milk he screams till he’s red in the face. He does also make some pretty darn cute coo’ing noises too. However, Mom hasn’t been able to put him down for very long, usually long enough to wash some bottles or possibly put on the dishwasher.

Our evenings consist usually of me attempting to give Lindsay a break, so she can perform simple tasks like having a shower, or eating. It’s not that he’s being bad or anything he just really likes to be held. And since he’s piecing together how to communicate he’s learning that screams seem the most efficient way to get things… as we seem to hurry when he does that.

Yesterday (Tues) was his hearing test. He had one hearing test at Mac – however since children with his sort of brain damage are more prone to having permanent hearing loss, they wanted a re-test to make sure that things are fine. How they test you ask? well it’s tricky they need you to get to the hospital just in time to feed him so he’ll fall into a deep sleep. What this does is when the machines measure a sleeping brain for brain activity it’s a nice clean line.. of minimal activity in the brain waves. When a tone is played… the brain receives it and they can see it affect the brain waves. This way they can test different pitches and tones to make sure he has a good range of hearing. When a child is awake the brain waves are polluted with other waves, an itch, seeing something, moving a limb, that sorta thing so it’s best when he’s asleep. The test went well and they gave him perfect hearing – more and more we’re hearing that the little guy is perfect. I mean we’re biased but it’s sure nice to hear.

We’re still waiting to see some detrimental result of his brain damage… but so far, he’s just super cute and ultimately amazing. Love ya little guy.
