whew what a week!
well this has been quite a week for us. Mark was able to take this week off of work to get to know our new family at home and I am so glad that he did.
I have to say that having our little Ayden home is such a blessing. He brings so much joy to our lives!
Monday we had our follow up doctors appointment from Ayden being discharged from the hospital. He is doing really well. From Thursday Feb 26 to Monday March 2nd Ayden went from 6 pounds 4 ounces to 6 pounds 7 ounces!!! woo hoo….we are feeding Ayden breast milk still but he is not doing so well on breast feeding so we are giving the milk through a bottle and he is doing really well with that and it shows as he is gaining weight! He is a hungry little guy!!!
We have had a few visitors this week as well. Finally Ayden can meet the people that have been praying so hard for him and following his story. It’s really nice to be able to say…here’s Ayden our little miracle, and actually have him in our arms.
We have found however that Ayden does not like to sleep at night. sigh….Once he has his bottle, he is wide awake! Big eyes on him and he is just wanting to talk up a storm. Makes for a long long nite…
We did have Ayden sleeping in a bassinet beside our bed, but since he makes so many noises at night and he actually tosses and turns we thought that we would try him in his own crib. Mark got this really cool monitor that has audio and video on it. we put it right beside my side of the bed and I can just turn my head to see him if he is fussing. He is actually doing really well in his crib, and that helps us get a few more winks of sleep…not many, but a few.
we have also had quite h a few outings. Weave been to the grocery store, home depot, Ikea and all over the place. Ayden just loves his car seat and stroller!!! He falls asleep as soon as you put him in…which is a good thing for us as it allows us to get out and do some needed errands.
Feeding Ayden has been quite the learning curve. Because he is a preemie baby, you cannot cradle him and feed him as you would a normal full term baby. Preemie babies have a difficult time with the “suck and swallow” coordination. He will suck on the bottle to get the milk, but he forgets to swallow and in turn chokes on the milk. As such, we have had to learn different ways in which to feed him without him choking. Having a preemie baby is very different from a full term…very different needs. Ayden is also on two different antibiotics and a multivitamin and iron supplement. We have to mix the meds in with his milk at different intervals during the day…makes for some interesting bottles!
But all in all….
I LOVE BEING A MOM! Our family is just amazing and I could not have asked for anything more.
