Not Every Day Can Be A Gem…
Hey’a folks,
Dad here – we’ve had one of those days where you really should never get out of bed… but there was a silver lining to it… that we choose to see.
The day started at around 6:30am for me.. which means I had about 3.5 hours sleep… so I grabbed a shower and off we went. We got to the hospital after stopping for gas… at this point things are good. We meet with the nurse for an update and quickly proceeded to breastfeeding.. I say we but Lindsay’s the superstar there… Ayden latched on, out of the gate and Lindsay was doing things like a pro… The new area that Ayden is in is really not very private, you have to wheel over a curtain on a metal frame and the room isn’t level so the frame tends to roll away on ya if you don’t butt something up against the side of it… but that aside it’s alright over there.
So after that we said goodbye to the little feller and tucked him in, then headed over to Lindsay’s parents place for breakfast. We then headed home and just as we got off the 401 the engine rev’d really high and then we started to hear a tickin’ sound. So just around fairway in Kitchener we stop at the Canadian Tire Gas station… Now with the Saturn I heard a ticking sound and it meant we were out of oil.. coincidentally we had seen a flickering with the oil light in the car but Lindsay said she checked the oil. With the Saturn once we topped up the oil the car is fine.. so I opened the hood and looked in for the all to familiar yellow handle of the Oil gauge…. checking the gauge I notice the level is fine.. upon further inspection I noticed that it wasn’t oil on the paper towel but the familiar pink of Transmission fluid. So looking around further I peer down along the front of the car and there tucked under the front frame is another yellow pull ring for checking a fluid level… sure enough that was the oil… so when Lindsay had checked it – she checked the wrong level. An honest mistake because the manufacturer made both pulls the same color. Well the bad part is that the damage seemed to have been done… the ticking continued. We filled the oil till the level read full. So we decided that if we drove for a bit it might work the oil through. But it didn’t help – we managed to get on to the expressway and then just after the Petersburg exit the ticking got really bad… then additional sounds came up. tings and rattlings as though the exhaust was coming loose… or the transmission was falling apart.. then the whole engine just died… I had lost a lot of power to the car before that – I couldn’t get it over 80km. So there we sat at the side of the road… the cold of the winter afternoon starting to make it’s way into the cabin. Lindsay called CAA and we waited. I’m thinking that this is going to be very expensive.. and we really can’t afford it. We’re still making payments on the truck… I still have no idea what happened.
Then we got home… lindsay pumped and we went back to the hospital – Lindsay breast fed again. We spent a lot of time with Ayden today…
So now we’re home and sitting on the couch… tomorrow is another day… Lindsay has to breast feed twice a day now.. so we’ll see how that goes tomorrow.. but today probably cost us $2000+ uuugh..
Ah well – still have a beautiful Son 😀
