Snuggles make my day!

Snuggles with Ayden just make the day so good. Today dad and I traveled to Hamilton again to see our little boy. He was wide awake when we got there. Lying on his back and just staring at the world around him. As we got there, I had to go and pump so dad got some one on one time.

He told Ayden stories of all different things and then nothing at all. dad talked about playing together and things they will do together when he is older. He also told Ayden that he was really proud of him and hope that he gets off the CPAP soon.

When I returned, it was snuggle time!!!!

I asked Dad if he wanted a snuggle, but he said that he would like me to snuggle today.

I sat down in the chair and they had this AWESOME pillow for me today. Normally its just a regular pillow that you would have on your bed, and that is alright, but you can’t get the pillow to sit just right and you keep having to adjust it. Today they gave me a breast feeding pillow. It actually looks like a letter “G”. It curves around your body and is supportative enough to hold the baby in the right position. It was so comfortable!

But as soon as the nurse opened the incubator, she noticed a slight aroma….Ayden needed a diaper change. But as I was already seated with the special pillow and blankets on me, Dad stepped in and changed his diaper for the first time…he did it like a pro. It’s a bit awkward when the baby is in the incubator, but Dad managed. He also put a cream on Ayden’s little bum as he has a bit of diaper rash.

After he was all changed and smelling great, the nurse put in him my arms. He didn’t fuss at all. She started his feed (which is up to 33mils over a 45 minute time frame and then he gets 2 hours to digest) and I covered him with a blanket. I started rocking in the chair and humming as well. (Mark started singing the “cupid..please here my cry…”song and so I was humming that). I was also giving Ayden his soother as well, he LOVeS his soother…and I guess the rocking, humming, feeding and soother was so relaxing…Ayden fell right asleep. I held him for about an hour, and then it was time to go home. the nurse put him back into his incubator and off we went.

So, every other night Ayden has bath time (which is more like a sponge bath) and they take him out to weigh him. Tonight is that night.

Ayden now weighs 1869 grams (4.12 pounds)

His CPAP is still at a pressure of 6. They were going to try to lower it yesterday, but they changed his feed over a 45 minute period and put it at 33 mils rather then 32 so that was enough change for one day. He looks so good. I mean his skin is a nice color, his eyes are looking around too. I don’t know how far he can see but its nice to see him looking around. He is handling his food well and as far as we know his washroom times are not an issue (As Dad can attest to today after the diaper change!!!)

I did ask the nurse how things work about transferring Ayden to Grand River. Apparently this is a bed issue. Grand River will not take Ayden until he is off the CPAP. If they need the room in Hamilton and there is a bed at Grand River they will transfer him. It’s not something that we have any control over. If the doctors requests a transfer then he will come to Kitchener. Closer to us for visits, but we are so comfortable with the care he is currently receiving we want him to stay where he is. But if they say transfer then he will be closer to home.

So another good day was had by all.

I hope everyone is feeling well and is having a wonderful Saturday.

Good evening.

Snuggles are great!!!!

    Hello Mark, Linsay and Ayden
Those breast-feeding pillows are fantasic and a big help after you both get out of the hospital too.
It’s so wonderful to see the photos and how Ayden is really growing strong. He has hair!! Wow, it looks dark or redish. You don’t really notice how life is speeding ahead until a little miricale is born and starts growing right before your eyes. Nahanni is almost 7 months old and I praise God every day. I’m going to be one of those mom’s that cries when she has to go back to work. To late I’m already tearing up just thinking about it now. Our continued prayers are with you all.
We have heard from a friend about a store that specializes in extra small clothes for babies. We will check it out and hopefully get to visit you all soon.
    Love, Cousin Virginia and Nahanni
