A Moment From Dad…
Yet another wonderful day we are blessed with a little one… he he he. We were up at the hospital today and Mom was fortunate enough to have some kangaroo time. And knowing now how good that was.. it was great to see. She spent 2 and a half hours with the little fella. At first he was on his back in her arms but then as things progressed he was moved onto his belly.. Mom supported him by holding his little bum to keep him against her. After that he was happy.
After Ayden went back into his incubator then mom went to pump… I stood there staring at my son sleeping… and I started to think about when he gets older… I knew from experience seeing other children that if you are doing your job correctly as a parent you’ll hear at some point “I hate you”, as they don’t realize at that moment your working towards their best interests. I stood there with my hand in his incubator, it covers his entire back.. he’s asleep under my touch. And thought if only he knew this moment I was sitting there with my hand on him and how much I love him. He might not say, that…
No, son I’m not going to be your best friend, I’m gonna be your Dad… I will always be there for you. I will teach you everything I can to instill in you what is right and wrong, what is just and moral. And I will do everything I can to be your hero. I’ll battle the monsters in your room at night and teach you all the best places to find the coolest bugs. I’ll do my best to teach you to day dream and use your imagination… and no doubt you’ll teach me a thing or two as well. At some point I will let you down.. every parent does… but I will always keep trying to make it up to you. I promise to read you bedtime stories every night for as long as you want.. and make all the voices. But most of all know that whatever happens in your life… whatever obstacles you encounter… I’ll be there for you. So sleep well little man… your daddy loves you.
Mark: this post really brought me to tears. I am so happy for you and your wife and relieved and happy that Ayden is so strong. I check your blog regularly to see how he’s doing.
All the best in this sparkling, new year to you and your family. Ayden will be home before you know it, and then everything will be *perfect* for 2009.
Cheers!
🙂 Dana
