December 30th update

Well we have had quite a few visits with Ayden over the last few days and he is doing really well. I went in by myself yesterday and had some snuggle time with our little one. I actually fell asleep in the chair when I was holding him!!!  LOL….so cozy…

So as for updates there are a few today.

Ayden’s weight has gone up – he is currently 1470 grams (3.24 pounds)

His feeds are being changed. He is currently on 18 mils of food over a 60 minute period and then he gets an hour break. They are changing this to 20 mils instead of 18!

With his CPAP (the oxygen) he also is on something called NIPPV. This is a device that is included with the oxygen and it gives Ayden extra breaths of air every minute. It basically pushes air into his lungs so he does not have to work so hard. Last week he was at 20 breaths per minute and they are trying to get him down so that he is doing all the work on his own. A few days ago, they lowered the breaths to 10 per minute and I just found out that today they are lowering to 5 per minute and hopefully in two days they will eliminate this all together and he will just be getting some extra oxygen and not the help with the breathing. All good news there!!!!

As for the eye test, apparently because Ayden is so small they could not see anything and things were a bit hazy so they are doing another test next week. Hopefully with his growth they will be able to see something. So to take away from this – there are no results to date and we have to wait until next week.

I do have to say that Ayden is doing really well. His skin is all pink, he is moving his arms and legs and stretching and yawning a lot (which is probably why I fell asleep yesterday when holding him)…

Oh, his PIC line in his arm is out now too….that was the iv that went in the crook of his arm and fed up to his shoulder on the inside. It was giving him iv fluid, but also proteins and his antibiotics as well but since he is done the antibiotics and does not need proteins anymore they took the line out.

He is such a cutie!!!!
