Poor little guy

Well Mark and I went to see Ayden last night. We found out that the lumbar puncture fluid did come back positive for infection. Ayden has E. Coli. They don’t know how it happens but all babies are prone to infection in the nicu. Whether it be flu, cold virus, e. coli…who knows how they get them…The good thing is that Ayden is already on Anti-biotics for this infection. I spoke to the nurse last night and asked how long the antibiotics run for and she said based on the infection it could be up to 21 days!  I guess they want to keep the antibiotics going to ensure that all the infection is cleared, and I don’t blame them.

I did get to hold Ayden last night, but you could tell he was not feeling well. He had some shivers and coughs and was just fidgety. his oxygen started to come down while I was holding him, but then he went all wonky at about the 1 hour mark and the oxygen started to drop. we put him back into his comfy bed and mark and I went home.

I called this morning for an update. the nurse informed me that Ayden had a rough night last night. He had 3 really bad spells. Normally when Ayden has these spells, he can resolve them himself or the nurses put their hand on his back and he responds to their touch and starts breathing again. Apparently last night he did not even respond to the touch on his back. They had to do what is called bagging using a bag valve mask..

You know when you see someone on tv being ventilated as they cannot breath and they put the bag over their mouth and pump the air in…well they had to do this on Ayden.

Poor little guy. He is going through so much right now. He is sick with E. Coli, having breathing blips, and just trying to survive.

They did tell me that his feed was up’d to 11 mils but they found some residual left over so they are going to talk to the doctor…my feeling is that they are going to have to lower the amount until this infection is gone.

Ayden is set to have his lumbar puncture today so hopefully that will help his spells a bit. they have not been this bad yet and it’s a bit upsetting to hear.

But by the wise words of my husband….
Ayden is in the best care. The nurses are there for him, the doctors are there for him. We know that they are doing what they can for his health. we know that this is going to be a roller coaster and this is just a little drop in the ride. At least Ayden is still here with us and he is a fighter. He does have a lot going on in his little body right now and it needs to heal. We just need to give it time.

I agree, he is in the best care, and I am praying for him at this very moment.
It is my belief that God wants Ayden here with you, he is already a miracle baby – and he’s working very hard to prove that!
The two of you have given him so much love already, and it is showing in his little life 🙂
    Love and Prayers,
    Maria

Well Ayden, here’s a message from Uncle Matt:

Now is the time when you are facing some obstacles and while difficult, you can overcome them! It’s time to FURGE! Battle hard, beat that infection – show those nasty germs that you can dig deep and heal…. Our thoughts and prayers are with you now more than ever… Good luck Nephew! To Mark and Lindsay, of course none of us know what the future holds but we hope you are able to manage okay through the roller coaster ride. Ayden has beaten the odds thus far and we hope God’s wish is for him to continue on this path…

One day at a time…. God, please be with our special gift; especially in these important days ahead…

    Matt…
