November 24th update

So today Oma and Aunt Bek came to visit Ayden with me. It was a really nice drive up.

Ayden is doing okay today. His weight as of last night was 780grams. there are a few issues today that have come up. Like the dr’s and nurses said, expect to have a few steps forward and some back. It seems that Ayden is having a bit of trouble breathing. they have done a chest xray and have found some “hazing” on the xray, which means that there might be some sort of fluid collecting in his lungs. He is having a hard time breathing and as such have up’d his oxygen and also given him a back up. Every 30 minutes there is a machine that will blow air into his lungs, this is so the lungs don’t collapse on themselves. they have done some swabs and sent them to the lab. If Ayden does have an infection, they will give him anti-biotics though his iv. Also they up’d his feedings to 4 mils ever 2 hours, but they felt that his tummy was getting bloated and this might also be pushing up on his lungs. To combat this, they are giving him what is called a continuous feed. every hour a machine will automatically give Ayden 2 mils of milk. He is still getting the same amount, but rather then giving in one shot where his little tummy expands, they are going to try to give it more frequent.
Ayden also had another head ultrasound today, but we will not get the results until later on in the week.
Apparently the nurses told me that Ayden does not like to be handled, at least today he was putting up a fuss. his heart rate and oxygen were all over the place during handling time. But once they are done and he is lying back on his tummy, he settles down.

So for the past few days, the nurses have asked me and Mark if we would like to help with handling time. either changing his diaper or cleaning his mouth. Mark and I both felt that Ayden was too small and fragile for us to be handling him and best to leave it to the experts, plus you have all the wires around him and you don’t want to pull on one accidentally…..
But today….MOM CHANGED HIS DIAPER….woo hoo…who knew that changing the first diaper would be so exciting. Ayden decided that he would pee just as I took the diaper off….but it was alright cause the nurse was there to guide me along. I know that as he grows, changing diapers will not be an exciting fact of life, but right now it was exhilarating!!!

So other then that, Ayden is still a swinger. His heart rate and oxygen are up and down all the time, but the nurses are monitoring that very closely.

I can’t wait to see him again….

After our visit, Oma took us out for lunch, what a nice way to end the day. thanks Oma!!!
