Ayden update December 6th
well, Mark and I really wanted to go into see Ayden today, but alas due to the weather it was too unsafe for us to travel. We however did call this afternoon and evening for updates and here they are: The afternoon update revealed to us that Ayden was doing alright, but they were having a bit of difficulty with the spinal tap or lumbar puncture. Apparently when they tried to do the puncture, they were unable to get any fludi, but did get some blood. The blood is either due to a punctured blood vessel, or the blood that was in the head is draining, we are not sure. They tried twice today to do the puncture, but it did not take, so they were going to wait a while to try again. We thanked the nurse for the update and went about our afternoon. The evening update was...
Anybody Got a Burning Bush?
Just one of Dad’s rants here.. but still kinda pertaining to the little guy… So if you’ve read my previous posts about faith and God and my lack of there of… this might be an interesting story for ya… there’s not news about Ayden here so if your just here looking for news about Ayden wait for mom’s update 😉 So as I started.. one day a few weeks ago I was headed off to work from my new home.. things were looking up… I’ve got a new house… a wife that loves me, a son who I’m sure before we know it will be home… So I’m cruisin down the expressway, the sun just started to fire it’s golden rays across the horizon, just for a brief moment before the sky would be swallowed by winters...
December 5th visit and update
Today was a GREAT day. I went down to the hospital at 11:30 this morning. When I got there the nurse was just doing some handling time, changing diapers and what not so I went and pumped. When I got back, the nurse said that Ayden was having a really good day and said that if I wanted to I could have Kangaroo time. I took the offer right away!!! She put Ayden on my chest and he just made himself comfy. He can’t really nuzzle in as he has some awesome headgear holding his oxygen tubes in place, but he cuddled me with his body and that was really nice. During my again 2 hour kangaroo time, I was speaking with the nurse. It seems that since yesterday Ayden only had one spell. He is tolerating his feedings really well…pooping up a storm and just all...
With every down there's an UP
Well, after I got off the phone with nurse Julie this morning, I was quite upset. Knowing that Ayden will have this spinal tap every other day, without any sort of freezing was really upsetting to me. The spinal tap has so many benefits and makes him feel much better after it’s done, but to think about the amount of pain that the little guy is in for the time the needle is inserted hurts me so much…. I just got a phone call from Julie. I guess she sensed that I was upset after I got off the phone with her and she called to update me. The spinal tap today went really well. After julie spoke with m e on the phone, she talked to the doctors about doing some sort of local anesthetic so that he would not be so uncomfortable. They tried it and Ayden was...
With Every Up, There Is A Down…
So this morning Lindsay made her daily call to the hospital which we were hoping would reveal that nothing had changed and that our little fella was just trucking along. Especially after the exceptional trip yesterday. The nurse informed Lindsay that his head was swelling and that another tap would be performed today. And that the neural surgeon had recommended every other day a tap would be done…Â Now for all you mothers out there that might have had an epidural you will sympathise with the pain this procedure causes. Oh but he gets no initial needle to dull the pain as pain killers and the like on such a small form could have negative effects… so he feels all of the pain from it. For those who don’t know.. they take a needle and stick it into...
