Late Night Feeds – A little easier
So it’s 2:19am again, and here we are in Ayden’s room, Mom hunting for a burp and me up for support. So I thought it would be time for an Ayden update. Mainly so the little guy knows what was going on in his life…so you’ll bare with me as I address him.
So little fella – this past week has been up and down for you… first off your growing!! I’m sure you’ll hear that in these over and over but we noticed when we put you in a sleeper we had used when you got out of the hospital and couldn’t fill out the legs and now.. now your almost to big for it, as it is fairly snug on you.
Your eating formula now… not in it’s exclusivity if that’s a word. but my spell check didn’t underline it so I’m gonna run with it ;P – we add one scoop of formula (Similac Advance) to each bottle and eventually we’ll start to ween the milk away as the supply dries up. Our concern was that we didn’t want a shock to your system when you were completely on formula. The flip side to it all is that you have a case of Thrush. A form of yeast infection babies get in their mouths. It leaves little sores kinda like cankers all over your mouth. And the medicine has a side effect of diarrhea. So we’re not sure if it’s that your adjusting to the formula or a side effect of your meds. But WOW can you fill a diaper now!!!
Yesterday mom almost made you laugh… she was making goo goo sounds at you while playing with a crib toy and you had the biggest smile. She phoned me at work to tell me how close you are to laughing. Can’t wait to hear it son. You haven’t started teething yet but do you ever get gas pains… Have I mentioned that you have learned to SCREAM at the top of your lungs now when you want food? oh ya… and when you are being fed if mom takes out the bottle to burp you… look out!!! lol silly stinker…
You’ve come close to sleeping 8 hours a few nights now.. we’re hoping any day now you’ll be there… 😀 he he he sleep here we come!!!. Well I could go on but mom is putting you in your crib so I gotta sign off. Love you to bits
Dad.
Mark and Lindsay,
I read Ayden’s blog (yes, from the beginning to now!) and I must say, it is amazing to read. You both are such articulate writers and really give a sense of what has happened in Ayden’s life. What a wonderful gift you are giving to him! It will be a number of years before he can really appreciate what you’ve done but for now the rest of us can enjoy it!
I really feel for all you have been through – you are such dedicated parents – I can’t imagine having braved such obstacles and to remain responsive and, well, sane!!!
I’m so looking forward to getting to know you and Ayden!
Janice
Hello Ayden!! So I just got back from your place, where I got to meet you in person for the first time. That sounds weird (being as you’re 5.5 months old), but I work crazy hours and your parents moved recently & I didn’t want to add to the stress of settling in to a new place with new baby. Plus with the blog updates I’ve been able to follow your life & felt like I kinda knew you already. Boy, was I wrong!! You are so amazing, you just take my breath away. Usually I’m obsessed with baby feet (& yes, yours are super cute!), but for some reason your itty bitty ears & fingernails really caught my attention today. I always amazed by the complexity & coolness of the human body- doubly so when I see all the same systems that keep me going in such a small package. You really are fearfully & wonderfully made.
Your grandparents were visiting as well (Ron & Lyli), and we were all just chatting, catching up & whatnot, & your mom was feeding you, & you make just the sweetest sounds! Little coos, squeaks & gurgles…. like the best symphony ever written. And you even eat cute- your big toes curl back & you clasp your hands together as though you’re so happy you just can’t stand it. Excellent. (Just like Mr. Burns on The Simpsons- ask your dad…)
Then your mom was filling me in on what’s new with you- I’ve sadly neglected to read the blog regularly this past month… You are also blowing me away with your strength & resiliency- your development is great. But your parents are incredibly strong people who triumph in the face of adversity, so it makes sense that you would get that trait from them. 🙂
And speaking of your parents, is was a real gift to be with your family today. Every move, every look that your parents share speaks volumes to their commitment to each other & to you. You are so loved & cherished, and that warmth just spills out & makes us all a bit better. Thank you.
“When we feel love and kindness toward others, it not only makes others feel loved and cared for, but it helps us also to develop inner happiness and peace.” (Tenzin Gyatso, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama)
