Ayden update Feb 2nd

Hi there.

Dad is still feeling really sick….I hope that he gets better soon….

As for Ayden, it’s been a rather busy weekend for him. First off, he weighs 2659 grams or 5 pounds 13.79 ounces!!!  sooo close to 6 pounds!

This weekend we have also started breastfeeding twice a day, 9am and 9pm. This means that I have to drive back and forth to Hamilton twice a day…(and lets not speak of the truck breaking down…). But Ayden is doing well with the breastfeeding. He is getting the hang of it, but gets tired really fast. They also took his feed and did what is called a bolus feed. His food was going into his tummy by using a pump that pushed the food through a feeding tube. A bolus feed is where you put the milk into a syringe and hold it higher then Ayden and the gravity pulls the milk through the feeding tube into his tummy. His food is up to 45 mils over 15 minutes as well….

However, yesterday Ayden had a brady (where his heart beat drops and his oxygen goes all wonky) and his oxygen kept lowering yesterday…the nurses think that there was too much change all at once. So last night when I went in, they had put Ayden on some oxygen at 6:30 and changed his food back to 30 minutes using the pump.  Even though all of this is going on, he still managed to breast feed….

I just called in to let the nurse know that I was not going to be in for the 9am breastfeed as Ayden has an eye exam this morning and he will be tuckered out. She told me that she took him off the oxygen at 3 this morning and he is doing well…

so all in all Ayden is still making some great progresses. I hope that the eye exam goes well today. If the eye exam is good, they will start to look for a bed here in KW, if the eye exam is in need of further investigation, they will keep him in Hamilton. I hope it’s good for Ayden’s sake, but also for my own. It’s a LOT of driving back and forth to Hamilton….

And I really hope that Dad feels better soon.
