Ayden update December 6th
well, Mark and I really wanted to go into see Ayden today, but alas due to the weather it was too unsafe for us to travel. We however did call this afternoon and evening for updates and here they are:
The afternoon update revealed to us that Ayden was doing alright, but they were having a bit of difficulty with the spinal tap or lumbar puncture. Apparently when they tried to do the puncture, they were unable to get any fludi, but did get some blood. The blood is either due to a punctured blood vessel, or the blood that was in the head is draining, we are not sure. They tried twice today to do the puncture, but it did not take, so they were going to wait a while to try again. We thanked the nurse for the update and went about our afternoon.
The evening update was a bit more on a happier note. Apparently they were able to do the puncture successfully this evening and 2 mils of fluid was removed. Ayden handled the procedure okay…as long as he had his soother with him! His weight is up to about 885 grams, so he is slowly gaining weight which is really good. They were going to graduate Ayden from his current “giraffe” bed to a regular incubator. The current bed is used for new born preemies…they can weigh the preemie right in the bed, it regulates the humidity and temperature inside and is much more of a flexible bed as it has several openings for handing and what not, the regular incubator is used to regulate the temperate but you cannot weigh the baby in the bed and its for a larger size baby. After speaking with the nurse tonight, it seems that they are going to keep Ayden in his current bed as it’s easier to maneuver him during the punctures as they are doing them every other day. That’s just alright with me! The nurse said that Ayden was now resting and was quite content after the procedure, it just really tires him out.
So that’s today’s news. we hope to get out to see the little guy tomorrow.
Hope all have a good nite!
